Treatment Philosophy

Holistic principles state that the health of the “whole” individual is determined by the health of that individual’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual “parts”. In treating psychiatric illness, I have found it important to pay close attention to these parts. I try to work with a person to determine if these areas are in balance, or are stressed and contributing to their “ill-being”. I consider it important to assess balance in the areas of nutrition, exercise, joy, rest and mindfulness, and will make recommendations for improvement when I think it might be helpful. Often it is a combination of psychopharmacological, complementary/alternative treatment and healthful living which provides the greatest benefit to those with mental illness.

Background

I attended Douglass College and graduated with a BA in Fine Arts. I worked for many years in advertising account management before returning to school in New Jersey to pursue a nursing degree. I completed my Associates Degree in Nursing at Mercer County Community College, and my Masters of Science in Nursing at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. Since then I have treated adults and adolescents in community mental health clinics and hospitals. Most recently I have been a co-investigator at the University of Pennsylvania’s Depression Research Unit studying allopathic and complementary/alternative medicine (CAM) treatments for depression, anxiety and bipolar illness. I am certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to treat mental illness.
